Keeping your Produce the Right Temperature

Fun fact: The Twin Cities, being exactly halfway between the North Pole and the equator - and in the middle of a continent - has a greater spread of temperatures than almost any place on Earth! It can get hot here in summer. And it can get cold in the winter.

Your food, though, doesn't like to get too hot or too cold. (Well, the frozen stuff doesn't mind too cold!)

We spend a bunch of time coming up with ways to make sure things stay at a good temperature in both summer and winter. We've got insulated coolers for our produce items. We've started using insulated silver "space bags" for our home deliveries.

Starting this week, we are also going to start phasing in the use of sweat-proof gel packs to help keep produce items at the right temperature. We will be including warmer gel packs in some coolers with non-frozen items to help them stay at the right temperature for longer.

If you get a gel pack in your delivery, be sure to set it aside and return it along with your cooler/spacesuit bag for on your next delivery day.

When we can, we will continue to use those lighter silver spacesuit bags due to space benefits they have. ("Space benefit" = because they are smaller. Not because they look like an astronaut suit.) And we may still use the bigger foam coolers on colder days if we have concerns that your produce would get too cold.

It's all part of our focus on continuing to do what we do better and be the best we can be!

We want to make sure everyone has good food even in the coldest Minnesota winter and the hottest August day! As always, we want your feedback on how well this works.
